Communion Practice
When HOLY COMMUNION is celebrated in the Worship Service it is in the confession and confidence that we receive into our mouths not only bread and wine but Christ’s very body and blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with Him and with one another.
The Lord’s Supper is celebrated at Good Shepherd with the confession and glad confidence that this Sacrament is the very Body and Blood of Christ. (The Doctrine of The Real Presence) which is received with the bread and the wine for us to eat and drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our faith. Our Lord invites to His table those who trust His words, repent of all sin, seek to forgive and love as He forgives and loves us, and have the intent, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to amend our sinful lives.
Holy Communion is also a confession of the faith. Children are welcome to commune after they are confirmed or have received formal communion instructions. If you agree with the nature and meaning of this Sacrament, and with our practice concerning administering it, and desire to commune with us, you are welcome! Any who are not yet receive instruction, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of Good Shepherd speak with the pastor.
For those unable to drink wine, white grape juice is available in the center of each tray.

LCMS responds to SCOTUS decision on ‘Dobbs v. Jackson’
On June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The court overturned Roe v. Wade by asserting that the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion and returned the issue to the states.
The people of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) have always advocated for the value of human life, which is made in the image of God. Thus, the church rejoices in this ruling while also praying for those who are hurting and afraid.
For more information on the Synod’s response, read:
• A statement from LCMS President Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison;
• A statement from LCMS Life Ministry; and
• A joint letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland from Harrison and the presidents of the WELS and ELS regarding increased violence against churches, pregnancy resource centers and pro-life organizations.
