You are encouraged to get evolved in the life of the congregation so that we may know you and be known by you. If you would like to volunteer in one of these roles that there is a schedule, let me know.

You are scheduled to serve as an acolyte at the indicated times to carrying out several important responsibilities before and during the worship service.
To acolyte at worship is to bring: CELEBRATION (as in lighting candles at a birthday party), REVERENCE (candles are lite at memorial sites), and ANTICIPATION (marking something special – like candlelight dinners). The lighting of candles in the worship service is symbolic of Christ coming into the presence of the community (John 8:12). It is symbolic because we know that Christ is with us wherever we go (Zephaniah 3:17, Matthew 28:20). True worship is honoring God with our lifestyles and not just on Sunday mornings in a church building.

Altar Guild Schedule
The Altar Guild is responsible for providing a reverent worship space that demonstrates love and respect for God and His people gathered in His name through the dedicated care of the banners, altar linens, paraments, communion apparel, and furnishings of the sanctuary. The Altar Guild plays a vital role in preparing a reverent and welcoming worship space—one that reflects love and respect for God and for His people gathered in His name. Through dedicated care of the sanctuary, members tend to the banners, altar linens, paraments, communion vessels, and other furnishings. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining the chancel area, washing communion ware, decorating for the church seasons, and ensuring the candles are properly filled and ready for worship.

The Focus of Our Worship is Christ. The purposes of music in worship is to give thanks to God; To rejoice/respond in what God has done; For edification (to give voice to our theology). The rhythm of worship is from God to us, and then from us back to God.
Our Lord is the Lord who serves:
• The Lord serves us today through His Word and Sacraments (Means of Grace)
• His service calls forth our service - in sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving to God and in loving service to one another.
• Our song joins with the song of every saint from every age, the new song of Christ’s holy people, declaring: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!”

Keeping our campus neat, orderly and maintained is one way to show excellence. The work meets a tangible need of our faith community while conveying a message that we are a vibrant and welcoming church. For better or worse, often seekers will have made their determination on whether or not to visit based on the congregation's curb appeal. Our work then is removing perceived obstacles so that we may live out our primary purpose as a congregation - the proclamation of the Gospel.

Your work is more than mowing grass or trimming hedges—it is a ministry. By keeping our campus beautiful, you create a place that reflects God’s excellence and invites people to encounter Him. Long before a word is spoken in worship, the appearance of our grounds speaks a silent message: “You are welcome here.”
For many who are searching, that first impression can open the door to hearing the Good News. By removing distractions and obstacles, you help pave the way for hearts to be drawn to Christ. In this way, your service prepares the soil for the proclamation of the Gospel to take root.

Lectionary
Lectionary tables include a set of Bible Readings appointed for Sundays, festivals, and occasions in the church year. The church year begins at the end of November with the start of the season of Advent (coming). Series A has Gospel readings from Matthew, Series B Mark readings, and Series C Luke readings of the 3 year Lectionary. 7/11/2025 3:41:56 PM
General Lectionary tables are found in the Lutheran Service Book (LSB pp xiv-xxiii) and The Lutheran Study Bible (TLSB pp xlviii) from which this chart was made.
Because the date of Easter changes from year to year, its place on the calendar during a particular year determines whether there will be a greater or lesser number of Sundays during the season of Epiphany and the season after Pentecost. Each set of appointed readings is assigned a “proper” number in Pentecost. When Easter is later in the year, the proper numbers immediately following the week after Pentecost Sunday (Trinity Sunday) are skipped.
Media Team Schedule
Thank you for your service to our Lord! You are scheduled to serve as the sound board (who also makes camera adjustments), projector screens, or live stream operator for the indicated worship services. The praise band practices on Saturdays @ 8:00 AM. It is helpful (to both you and the praise band) if you could operate the sound; screens for practice on the Saturday before your scheduled worship service.
Our labor is meant to enhance the worship experience through visuals and sound. We are also enabling others to follow the service and worship remotely.

You are scheduled to serve as the sound board operator (who also adjusts the cameras), projector screen operator, or livestream operator for the indicated worship services. Your work is vital—it enhances the worship experience by helping the congregation hear clearly, follow along with the service, and allowing those online to participate through the livestream.
The praise band rehearses on Saturdays at 8:00 AM. It is very helpful, both for you and for the band, if you are able to run sound and screens during the rehearsal before your scheduled worship service.

The ministry of Good Shepherd belongs to the congregation with whom God gave the Office of the Keys. The pastor uses the congregation's keys publicly on our behave. The standard readings for each Sunday come from the lectionary: a list of readings from the Old Testament, Epistles (letters), and the Gospels that together form one coherent unit of thought. The lectionaries are organized into three year cycles of readings and follow the calendar of the church year which commemorates the Birth of Christ (Christmas), His resurrection, and the empowerment of the Church by the Holy Spirit. The practice of reading Old and New Testament sections is noted as early as 150 AD.

The readings for each Sunday normally come from the lectionary—a collection of Old Testament, Epistle, and Gospel lessons that together present a unified message. The lectionary follows a three-year cycle arranged around the church year, which highlights Christ’s birth (Christmas), His resurrection (Easter), and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (Pentecost). The practice of reading both Old and New Testament texts in worship dates back as early as 150 A.D.
Please note: the Pastor has the final say in selecting the readings for worship and may choose to deviate from the standard lectionary. The schedule I’ve provided is also available in The Lutheran Study Bible (beginning on page xlvii) and on our website: www.shalimar.church/volunteers.

A church usher is a person who helps ensure a smoothly running church service while fostering an atmosphere of reverence and worship. At the heart of an usher is the heart of a servant, who does their work for our Lord (Colossians 3:24). Our tasks are to help make people feel welcome at church in a variety of practical, assist the Called Ministers with people management, receiving the offering, and maintaining a safe environment.
